A Nice Little Hike

A main feature in Villa de Leyva are the giant hills surrounding the city. We searched out possible trails we could climb for a good mirador and were pleased there was one that seemed pretty easy. The start of the trail was about 20 minutes away from our hostel in the city center, and took about 30 minutes to climb up.

As I’ve often said on this blog, I’m no athlete, so if I think something is easy it’s probably pretty easy. This was quite easy. And very enjoyable. We got to walk up some rocks and through really tall grasses. There is a Jesus statue at the top of the trail, along with some devotional shrines and a bench.

You don’t get to the top of the hill, more like in the middle, but it still provides a pretty nice view where you can take good photos. Before the sun started to set we headed down and were back in no time.

You’d think there would be more trails around Villa de Leyva given all the hills, but it seems like much of the hills are a part of a natural park and are protected landscapes, so you can’t climb up them. But that’s okay! The trail we used was a good option.
