Biesanz Beach

I was at a loose end one Saturday morning and decided to take a solo walk to Biesanz Beach, a more ‘local’ beach about a mile and a half walk from the Selina. There are a few signs on the road pointing the way so I thought I wouldn’t have a problem walking there. And I didn’t. Until I did.
The road to Biesanz is long, and hot, and has very little shade. There’s no where to really stop to get a drink or buy anything as it’s mostly private houses or exclusive resorts lining the road, and even those are somewhat few and far between.
I pretty quickly regretted my decision to do the walk, but decided to soldier on anyway. Then my sandal broke. It was completely unusable and I was in a bit of a fix as I wasn’t near anywhere that could help me and the pavement was extremely hot.
I was limping along hoping I would find some place I could buy a new sandal when a construction worker hailed me from across the street. He didn’t speak any English but indicated that I should stand in the shade while his colleague got a golf cart to take me to the beach. He was also kind enough to use his tools and some glue to fix my sandal. I was so grateful for his consideration.
His colleague dropped me off near the entrance to the trail to the beach. After a five minute walk I was there.
The beach, like every Costa Rican beach I’ve been to, is extremely beautiful. It wasn’t overly crowded and it was easy to find a place to sit and read my book (In a Free State by V.S. Naipal).
Vendors were also selling nice, fresh ceviche for about $4 and coconuts for about $2—really cheap for this area and a better deal than you can find on the main tourist beach of Manuel Antonio.
I spent about an hour and a half here swimming, reading, and being chill. It was a nice relaxing afternoon, but next time I would definitely call a cab.
