Chilaquiles to Go When I Need Them Most

Sev was feeling sick this morning so I went out to find us both breakfast to go. But there was one problem: it was pouring rain. And the cafe I wanted to go to next to the Airbnb was closed. And it was so early not many other things were open either. Except for Chilaquiles Dona Felix, right across the street.

I actually don't really like chilaquiles, which are basically nacho-like chips covered in meat, sour cream, and salsa, but this was literally the only option so I figured I could handle it for one meal.

I got an order of chicken chilaquiles for both me and Sev, along with red and green sauce. The women who worked there were both extremely nice and I was really touched by their kindness and attempts to explain the ordering process to me when they realized my Spanish wasn't very good.

So that already gave me a positive impression of the place, which is literally a hole in the wall restaurant with one single stool for in-person dining. They only serve things to go, and in cartons you can eat from while walking, and the only kind of food they have is chilaquiles. Fortunately for my caffeine-addicted brain, they also had coffee.

I brought the goods back to the apartment and was actually surprised to find that I enjoyed it. The salsa verde was flavorful, the chicken was cooked well, and the chips were crispy. Poor Sev was feeling too sick to eat much of his food though so I can't get his take on it. But for me, I could see myself eating here again, especially if I'm on the go.

I know. I'm not a food photographer. But trust me it was good. I know. I'm not a food photographer. But trust me it was good.
