The weather was really good today so Amby and I went on a little walk in the snowy mountains. We decided to drive to Stöckalp and take the cable car to Melchsee-frutt from there. Many people had the same idea so we had to wait in line for about fifteen minutes to get to the cable car. The ride itself takes about twelve minutes and brings you directly into the winter sports area of Melchse-frutt. There you can go skiing, snow-shoeing, sledding, or hiking.

We walked around the lake to the little chapel and from there to the restaurant Distelboden. It's a self-service restaurant with many indoor and outdoor tables. We got some coffee and cake and sat outside. It was not too cold and we enjoyed the view of the mountains around us. After this snack, we continued our walk. We went all around the frozen Tannensee and back to the Cable car station. On our way back we found an igloo. We both crawled in and it was surprisingly warm inside.

There was no line to go back down by cable car because most people drive down by ski or sled. It was a beautiful day with Amby. The ticket for the cable car roundtrip was $35 per person. This is quite a high price if you just go on a walk. Of course, you can walk up and without using the cable car but then you better start a bit earlier in the morning, as it would take about two hours. The price for the cake and the coffee was around $10. The inside of the restaurant is not really nice but if you can eat outside it's beautiful.

If you want to spend some time in the snow Melchsee-Frutt is a good place to start.
