Expensive Sandwich Challenge

There was a heatwave in D.C. and my apartment's AC was not up to the task. What better reason to go for a stroll to find a cafe where we could cool down? We dropped by Union Kitchen, which is part tiny grocery store, part sandwich shop in the Logan Circle neighborhood.

At this point I'm expecting to spend money in D.C. Once you accept this harsh reality you just have a better time. If you don't want to spend at least $20 on food, don't go out. So with that in mind Sev and I went ham and ordered two sandwiches, a glass jug of apple juice and something called a "billionaire bar" which had a bunch of random sweet things and nuts, caramel, and chocolate on it. Looked good, tasted great.

All told, it came to about $40.

Now let's talk about the sandwich. I got a chicken sandwich, and honestly it was okay. Not the greatest sandwich of my life, but pretty good. I remarked to Sev that I could probably make this at home. Sev then challenged me to do just that.

Alright fine whatever. We got the chicken, chile mayo, avocado and cheese. And with Sev's expert chicken cooking experience I created two sandwiches. Were they as good as the one I had at Union Kitchen? No. But it was okay. Cost? Maybe like $3.50 for each sandwich, mostly from the chicken. Would I do it again? Sure why not. Great quality time with Sev if nothing else.

Are we ready to open our own restaurant? Are we ready to open our own restaurant?

So where does this leave Union Kitchen? I would give it 3.5 snacks because the sandwiches just were not that remarkable. I did like the apple juice jug though and still use it as a water jug.

An investment for the future! An investment for the future!
