I did not expect it would be so hard to get dinner in the Munich Old Town, but pretty much everywhere we tried—even HardRock Cafe—turned us away without a reservation.

After walking around a bit we saw Sir Helga on Google Maps, and it had somewhat good reviews so we headed that way. It was still too full inside so we had to sit outside, which was kind of cold, although they did provide large blankets. My food wasn’t that great, but Sev liked his a lot.

Where we ate in the cold without a reservation. Where we ate in the cold without a reservation.

Our advice: Plan ahead and get a reservation for where you really want to go, or avoid the Old Town while hungry.

I got the Grandma’s Sunday roast, a 40-hour slow-cooked Bavarian beef shoulder, which I thought would be awesome (23 EUR). But it was only okay. I liked the mash potatoes it came with but was not at all a fan of the vegetables.

The veggies really brought the dish down. The veggies really brought the dish down.

Sev got the grain-fed chicken with nut butter and black rice in a bowl (23 EUR), he actually really liked his! We also both got a beer (4.50), which was good.

To my surprise Sev gave his dinner 4.5 snacks, while I would give mine 3. I guess I got the wrong dish. We’ll compromise and give it 4.

Looks good, tasted good. Looks good, tasted good.
