First Sushi in Mexico
5 Jul 2021 by Amby
After a long day of traveling to Guadalajara from Mexico City, Sev and I were both extremely tired and hungry. Which made the 40 minute wait for our Airbnb host, who had forgotten we were coming, all the more unpleasant. Fortunately, there is a sushi restaurant, Sushi and Roll, right next door, where I was able to snack while Sev waited for the key.
Sev does not really like sushi, and I’m not the biggest fan either, but the idea of a cold meal sounded really good at that moment. I played it safe and ordered the spicy tuna roll. You could order full rolls or half rolls, a concept I really liked. I got the full roll because I was starving. It’s a really tiny shop with just a few stools around the bar, where you can watch the two sushi chefs make the rolls.
Everyone was really nice and helpful to me when it became obvious my Spanish was not sufficient to answer all of their questions on how I would like them to prepare the sushi. In general I thought the ambiance was very friendly and fun.
The sushi itself was pretty good, I got it to go and devoured it in just a couple minutes in the Airbnb, which was unlocked just as I got the food. The rice was not cooked sufficiently, but the other ingredients were fresh and the sauce was great—just the right amount of spiciness.
I got sushi here again our last day in Guadalajara, this time the TNT roll, which is one of the deep fried crunch rolls with shrimp. This time the rice was perfect! I was again impressed with how pleasant the sushi chefs were and how pleasant the vibe was in the restaurant.
If you need a sushi fix in Guadalajara, Sushi and Role a good option.
