Sev was out doing his first SCUBA diving class today so I was left to my own devices to organize lunch. I opted for something hyper-local: our Selina hostel's bar/restaurant, right downstairs.

I've had quite a bit of experience with Selina food the past six months, and it's often overprice and really hit or miss in terms of quality. But, the restaurants are located in the most social parts of the hostel and are nicely decorated. It's a great way to meet people and staff are generally quite friendly. Selina PDC is no exception.

When I sat down the bartender told me the bowls today had a promotion—they'd come with a free non-alcoholic drink. That's good enough for me. I ordered the tuna bowl at a whopping 214 pesos. This is my last week in Selina after six months visiting 10 of their locations in four countries, so I figured I'd treat myself. Plus this price is par for the course in this part of PDC.

The bowl came out in a timely manner and had a pretty presentation. It was mostly enjoyable, although I kind of messed up when I dumped all of the soy sauce on it at once before I started, making the end of the meal extremely salty. Whoops.

The tuna was pretty fresh but did have a slight fishy taste that made me wonder if they were doing the free drink promotion to use up some of their tuna stock, for which I will take off half a star. Overall, it was pretty good and I finished the meal and the free drink (Coca-Cola) feeling full.

In terms of ambiance, the Selina did not disappoint. Several other people were working or eating at the bar. One guy, a graphic designer, even came up to me to see if I could see if a QR code he was designing was working properly. These are the kind of low-stakes, friendly interactions you could have at a Selina, and what I was looking for in one of the few meals I've eaten alone since traveling with Sev. The music, mostly American soft rock, is also at a pleasant, inoffensive volume.

Despite its proximity, I probably won't eat here again just because there are so many other options nearby. But in terms of having a friendly, casual dining experience with a bunch of strangers, this is a great option for a solo traveler. All in all I give it 4.5 snacks.
