The hotel Drew and I were staying at was a bit of a walk from downtown Sofia, so we were delighted to see a nearby restaurant with very high reviews a couple minutes away.

We loved this Italian place for both the vibe and the amazing food, and recommend it highly to our readers!

The Menu Is In Your Head

We loved how homey the restaurant felt, which included a little gift shop where you could buy high quality pasta products. The owners are Italian and it did feel like a place you'd find in Italy.

When we sat down we were informed that there were no menus, except for what was written on whiteboards on the wall in Bulgarian.

While Drew does speak Russian and we could’ve winged it with his translation, we were obviously tourists and the nice waiter offered to just make us some dishes based on what we wanted. This concept seemed very interesting so we went for it.

I don't remember what went into this but it was great. I don't remember what went into this but it was great.

First the waiter asked what kind of meat we wanted, and then what kind of sauce and toppings. He modified his options based on what we chose so that ingredients were complimentary, and then suggested more ingredients and pasta styles based on our tastes.

Honestly Drew and I don’t even really remember the exact combination we got, and both dishes were very different. Drew says this is the best pasta he had ever had.

I do think his tasted better than mine, but I really enjoyed mine too. Afterwards we ordered a baked tiramisu for dessert, which was also very nice!

Conclusion

Everything together came to about 30 BGN each, which we think is totally worth it. If you happen to be in this neighborhood, give Pronto Vino a shot!
