The one-dollar Pizza from New York is legendary. As a big pizza fan, it was clear that I had to try it. Amby and I stayed in Chinatown so this was the area we started the search.

I checked multiple possible locations on Google Maps but most of them were too “high quality." It looks like the New Yorkers are not happy with the cheapest pizza anymore. They want a bit more and are ready to pay three or even four dollars per slice.

The high inflation of the last few years pushed up the prices as well. I was not able to find a real one-dollar pizza restaurant anymore but I found a 1.5-dollar place. This had to be good enough.

Like most of these pizza places, there was a deal. We could get two slices and a soda for four dollars. Amby got a slice of pepperoni and a slice of mushroom pizza. I got the cheese and the pepperoni pizza. We could add some spices and sauces ourselves. Both Amby and I added chili flakes to get some spiciness.

The restaurant was minimalist. On the inside there was a self-made wooden bar around the walls but no chairs or tables. On the outside were three chairs but no table. The chairs were occupied so we stayed inside at the bar.

I was surprised at how good my pizza was. The dough was really simple and I could imagine it was self-made to save money. The cheese was better than most cheese I had in the U.S. The pepperoni was really greasy but ok if you just take one slice.

I guess the low price forces the pizzaiolo to stick to the basics. Amby was not a big fan of her pizza. She suggests investing 1.5 dollars more to get a better slice. Typical uptown girl advice...

If you are in New York, have low standards and like pizza, you should give it a try.
