This time of year, the weather in Zurich is always bad. It’s cold and gray, and there’s a lot of snow. After a few weeks of this, I get depressed, and for Amby, it’s even worse. She lived in Florida for many years and is used to good weather and lots of sun. So we decided to go to Barcelona for a week and work from there.

We booked everything last minute, and sometimes it’s difficult to know how a hotel will actually be just from the website. This time, we were less lucky with our hotel choice. There was no way we could work from there, so we searched for a coworking space nearby.

OneCoWork has multiple locations in Barcelona. The Cathedral one was the closest to us. I went there on Monday morning and got a weekly subscription for 95 euros. The coworking space offers flexible options for single days or weeks. You can also get a monthly membership or rent entire offices. There’s plenty of space spread across three floors. I only used the first floor, and it seems the other floors are more for companies that have rented fixed spaces.

You can get coffee or tea for free. There’s also a fridge to store your food and a microwave to warm it up. You can buy different snacks and drinks at good prices. The whole place is really clean and tidy. They have multiple Wi-Fi networks that cover every square meter of the building. The connection was always fast and reliable, which was really important to me.

People here seem to work very little. Most come in around 10 a.m., then start talking to friends and getting coffee. By around 10:30, it gets quieter as people begin working. Then, at noon, people start their lunch break. A lot of the guests seem to know each other. They have lunch together and talk a lot. It’s hard to work during this time because they’re so loud. This goes on until around 2 p.m. This was the only aspect of the coworking space that I didn’t like. I usually escaped to one of the telephone booths to get some work done.

If you like networking and are interested in startup culture, this could be a good place for you. Many of the guests really enjoy talking about their startups. I tried to avoid these conversations as much as possible because I wasn’t interested in the next big OpenAI proxies. Amby, on the other hand, heard about an app that interested her a lot, so it can be great if you get lucky.

All in all, I had a great time working at OneCoWork, and I would recommend it to anyone who needs an office for a few days in Barcelona.
