Sad Pizza Delivery
4 Jul 2021 by Amby
Sev wasn't feeling well the entire day, and hardly touched his breakfast, so I figured ordering his favorite food, pizza, on UberEats would be the best dinner choice. And perhaps it would have been. But chaos and disappointment ensued.
Sev was basically lying in bed with a fever looking sickly all day—he did get a COVID test and that came back negative, at least—so I endeavored to find the best pizza to cheer him up, and Pizza y Come looked pretty good on the UberEats website. And they had the additional benefit of having a low wait time of just 30 minutes.
I eagerly watched online as my pizza was cooked and prepared for delivery. Just around the time it was expected to arrive, I was told it was on its way, but the driver was a restaurant employee and therefore there was no tracking of where he was on his journey to my apartment.
We live on the fifth floor of a locked apartment complex, so a delivery driver couldn't come directly to our door—if we waited it would have to be by the building's door. I waited in the drizzling rain for a half hour, eventually Sev came down to give me a jacket and together we waited another ten minutes.
We called the restaurant but of course our Spanish was highly insufficient. From what I understood though, the order was on its way. Defeated, and 30 minutes after the latest expected arrival time, we went back inside.
About forty minutes later we hear this extremely loud repetitive beeping sound coming from outside. Sev suggested that it might be the delivery driver. I went down to check, and lo, it was.
I brought the pizza upstairs but it was a cold husk of what it might've been had we gotten it sooner. The cinnamon rolls we ordered were also cold.
However, we were both extremely hungry and had a microwave at our disposal, which we used to heat this food up. It was okay, but not good in terms of taste or experience. 0.5 snacks.
