So far in the Switzerland trip I haven’t really seen any of the Alps, and what I have seen of the Alps was only from far distances. Switzerland is famous for the Alps so I was always like, “where the Alps at, Sev?” This weekend, I found out. And got a snack along the way.

Sev and I drove to Furkapass, about 2.5 hours from where we were staying. It was an amazing drive and I could barely believe how big and majestic the mountains looked. We made it to the start of a trail, parked the car, and started walking towards the Sidelehütte, a hut in the mountains about an hour and a half hike away. The walk was really good and not too difficult. We crossed a glacial stream and saw a lot of pretty vegetation, rocks and sheep. We also saw a few families with children walking along the trail. Few things are more motivating on a hike than seeing a six year old do the same things and not complaining.

By the time we got to the hut I was ready to snack. The hut had a surprisingly large range of food and drinks available, and Sev and I each got a pastry for about $6 each. I also got a Snickers bar for the extra energy boost.

The hut has a fantastic view of the mountains, including the two camel rocks, and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We snacked and took pictures for about fifteen minutes before walking back. Overall this is a nice and rewarding hike that is not too difficult for a budding alpinist. Five snacks!
