The Coffee-While-You-Wait Cafe

We had one totally free day, a Sunday, to walk around Guadalajara and decided to head to Cafe Chai Centro to start. Sunday seems like a popular day for breakfast in town; a lot of cafes had lines where people were waiting. There was a short line for Cafe Chai Centro but we really liked the quirky and fun vibe and best of all, we could get free coffee while we waited in line! Why don't more places do this?
After about 10 minutes we were seated and immediately given a basket of baked treats. So nice! Sev got a coffee and I got a chai tea, and they came in oversized cups. I got the mollettes because I heard that mollettes are a special Mexican dish, but frankly they just weren't for me. They're basically like bread with cheese and meat on them, like a pizza on a dinner roll. I wasn't a fan as it was just too much bread and cheese.
Sev got the ham and cheese panini. He says "it was not bad. But it was not the best panini. I give the panini three and a half snackies." When the waiter realized we were better at English than Spanish, he switched to English and asked if Sev would like rice or salad with his panini. Sev had never heard of a panini with rice before so asked for that. When the food came out we realized that the water had actually said 'fries,' not rice. According to Sev, the fries were good.
Cafe Chai Centro is a hip and trendy spot that seems to go just a little bit further to be considerate to customers. Between the free waiting in line coffee, the free treats, and the larger-than-normal coffee mugs, we were charmed. It's also in a really cute part of town, and when we were there Sunday morning the entire main street had been shut down for bikers and runners. We might just have gotten unlucky with the food, but for ambiance alone we'll give it four snacks.
