In our last two days at Playa del Carmen, Sev and I decided to show 15 Avenida Ntr some more love. This street is only two blocks away from the main tourist area Quinta Avenida, but has a really great selection of small, local restaurants serving Mexican fare at low prices.

It didn't take long until we stumbled upon El charco de las ranas gril, a cute open-air restaurant with the sort of homey, friendly atmosphere we were looking for. I had the steak tacos and Sev had the steak fajitas. I was quite happy with my dish, and Sev was thrilled with his. Everything about the food was delicious and the meals came with various sauces to spice things up further.

We also got beers, they only seemed to have one variety on draught and we didn't understand what it was when the waitress told us as our Spanish is still not that great. Nevertheless, it paired with our food quite nicely.

The ambiance was relaxed, there wasn't loud music, and the street outside wasn't very crowded. There were a few other customers but they seemed like locals. For about $6 each, you really can't do much better. It's amazing to me that more tourists don't walk two blocks away when the price differences are so significant with no compromising on quality. We strongly urge our readers to check this street and all of the nice restaurants on it out.
