After the two hour drive back from ICE! to Venice my mom and I were pretty hungry, and decided to check out Nokomo’s Sunset Hut for dinner.

We brought Sev here last year for drinks and I really liked the tiki vibe and location right on the water. Now it was time to check out the food!

The vibe is good! The vibe is good!

Tacos:

My mom got the mahi tacos ($15.95) and I got the “island tacos” ($14.95). They’re basically the same except the island taco is spicier.

I thought it was okay but I didn’t like all the lettuce leaves in the taco, which made it a bit wet-tasting. The spiciness level was good for me though. II also didn't much care for the chips, but chips have never been a favorite for me.

My mom felt similarly about hers, and overall we preferred the tacos at Cafe Evergreen. I also got an unsweet iced tea ($2.89) and mom got a pinot noir ($11.95). Can't complain about those!

Dessert:

The waitress mentioned some desserts and it was the holidays so I felt like getting a treat. She said they were really tiny so my mom and I ordered one each: a pineapple upside down cake and a chocolate lava cake ($7.95 each).

These weren’t as tiny as I the waitress made it seem and we probably could’ve gotten away with splitting one. But anyway, I thought the pineapple upside down cake was very good and would definitely get that again.

The chocolate lava cake, however, was made less enjoyable by the raspberry sauce that came with it. Would skip that one next time.

Vibes:

While the food was so-so, the vibes are very good. I love the tiki look and the outdoor seating. While we were there in winter we were perfectly comfortable thanks to the heat lamps nearby.

Still comfortable in the (mild) Southwest Florida winter. Still comfortable in the (mild) Southwest Florida winter.

When we brought Sev here last year we enjoyed the sandy beach area and watching the sunset over the water. There was also fun live music, which is scheduled regularly!

How fun! How fun!

Conclusion:

Overall this can be a fun place to go for drinks, music, and atmosphere. But I’m not sure I would try eating here again, and definitely not the fish tacos.

Together our dinner came to $78.30, and in this case I don’t think the juice was worth the squeeze.
