As a fan of the iconic sitcom Seinfeld, I decided to visit Tom's Restaurant during my trip to New York City–a location that holds a special place in the hearts of many Seinfeld enthusiasts.

Located on the corner of West 112th Street and Broadway, Tom's Restaurant has become synonymous with the show's beloved characters and their hilarious misadventures.

Stepping foot into this iconic establishment felt like stepping into a piece of television history.

Only the exterior of the restaurant was used in the show. The interiors were shot on a soundstage. So it looked different inside, but still gave off a cozy, friendly, all-American-diner feel that the characters in Seinfeld would probably have liked.

To my surprise, there were only a few other people in the restaurant when we sat down–didn’t this city of 8.5 million have enough Seinfeld fans to keep it packed all day long?

As soon as we sat down we got the menu and water. Soon after, I ordered a double cheeseburger ($14.70) and a Coke ($3.50). Amby got a roast turkey meal ($15.50) with an unsweet iced tea ($3.50).

My burger and the fries tasted great, but the cheese was a disappointment. Americans have this highly processed “American cheese” that is not suitable for Swiss people. I should know by now not to order cheese in the United States.

Amby really liked her roast turkey and mashed potatoes with cranberry sauce, which she said was “exactly what she wanted.” As usual, she also ate the pickle off of my plate.

All in all it was a great experience. If you like Seinfeld it could be fun to visit Tom’s restaurant and take pictures outside. Prices are relatively low and the food and service are good.

And if you’re a tourist, it’s also right next to the charming campus of Columbia University, a worthwhile stop on your sightseeing tour. Stop by Tom’s next time you’re in town!
