Sev and I got into D.C., where I had lived for about three years before my seven-month Latin America trip. Our new apartment is in the Logan Circle area, which is a great location within walking distance many major attractions. This was my first day working remotely from my apartment so I thought it was a good opportunity to check out my nearest cafe for an easy snack.

The Roasted Boon has lots of outdoor seating and a hip indoor area with a multi-colored map of the world painted on the inside wall. Most of the tables had an urban professional working on a laptop, but it wasn't overly crowded.

I indulged in the signature Shaw Latte which has espresso, french vanilla, steamed milk, and nutmeg for $5.25. Quite a change from ordering coffees in Latin America for like $1-2. That's also not including the 10% D.C. restaurant tax. I ordered it hot but they gave me the iced version, which was annoying, but I didn't feel like waiting around for the correct order so just accepted my fate. It was about 95 degrees outside so it wasn't the worst thing that could happen either way.

I also got an apple danish which cost about $4. While the prices were high, I would say it's pretty normal for a nice coffee shop in D.C., and to The Roasted Boon's credit both items tasted very good. I was also flattered by the barista, who said she liked my tropical shirt I had gotten from Costa Rica, which made me feel good.

I'm not rich enough to partake in this sort of snacking every day, but I got what I came for: expensive but high-quality coffee and pastry. If that's what you want too, then go for it.
